Republic (political organisation)

Republic is a political movement in Britain, which has the abolition of the British monarchy and the establishment of a republic with a democratically elected head of state to the goal. Current chairman is Emily Robinson. It was first established in 1983 and re-formed after a recent resolution 2006. The campaign is supported by several members of the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party. In Scotland, the organization runs under the name of Republic Scotland own sub-organization. According to the company was the 2012 campaign, the year of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, 21,000 supporters. In other republican organizations in the Commonwealth of Nations Republic is united under the umbrella organization Common Cause.
