Republican Party (East Timor)

The Partidu Republikanu PR ( Republican Party ) is a party in East Timor, which has been active since December 30, 2005 and was officially founded on 17 December 2007, at its first national conference. In the political spectrum it is classified as a social-democratic party of the center.

The party has chosen its name, as the term is familiar to all Timorese and Republic means that all residents can participate in decisions about the development of the State. Therefore, the party motto is also the voice of the people is the supreme law ( Vox Populi Suprema Lex ). The party has strong ties to student movements and the formation layer of East Timor. There are separate organizations for youth, women, workers and peasants.

Members

Is chaired by its founder, the economist João Mariano Saldanha, a member of the faculty at the Dili Institute of Technology and the Timor Study Group TIDS. He comes from an influential Timorese family, which also includes the publisher of the newspaper Suara Timor Lorosae and the Deputy Director of the Dili Institute of Technology, Estanislau de Sousa Saldanha. João Mariano Saladanha is also a member of the State Council of East Timor and taught previously at Harvard University. Secretary General is Belarmino F. Neves.

Policy objectives

The party wants to create a social democracy, equality, justice and tolerance ensures. As six major themes she sees security, job creation, peace and order, education, health, decentralization and gender equality. Customs and traditions should be preserved, but new ideas to enrich society of East Timor.

The National Police of East Timor PNTL should be professionalized through better education and a clearer separation of the PNTL leadership and politics. The role of the East Timor Defence Force F- FDTL should be redefined and focused on emergencies, peacekeeping and natural disasters.

Free competition should be encouraged, especially in telecommunications, in order to reduce prices and to achieve a better service for the customers. Defense and the F- FDTL high command should be separated more clearly to prevent a political instrumentalisation of the army.

National unity is to be strengthened, which is why the names of the western and the eastern part of the country, Loro Loro Sae Munu and should be criminalized as discriminatory. Tetum to be the dominant language in the administration. All official documents are first written in Tetum and Portuguese and then translated into the working languages ​​Bahasa Indonesia and English. In order to facilitate the youth, the private sector and the Government to work in the globalized world, English will be the third official language alongside Tetum and Portuguese.

A Ministry of Gender Equality and minorities should be created by the participation of women in politics, public administration, military and other fields to promote.

20 percent of the state budget will be devoted to agriculture around here to create jobs for the unemployed youth. The rural structure is to be developed by the building of water / sewer lines, electricity, roads, schools and health centers. The malaria is to be eradicated by 2015. The cost of electricity production should be reduced by even poor families to allow access. The labor market should be regulated and only professionals from abroad will be allowed to East Timor, to protect the native unskilled workers.

The national parliament should be strengthened. At the same time tasks are submitted to the districts and Subdistrikte, which then directly elected their own managers are to receive, so that the people know their leaders directly. Banks should be encouraged to work in rural areas.

The party called pacifist. The current problems are to be solved by diplomacy. International trade, sporting and cultural relations with other countries should be promoted. In the border districts also Bahasa Indonesia should therefore be taught in schools.

Illiteracy is to be fought. This is also the education policy to be decentralized and private schools, such as Catholic, are supported. Religion and ethics should be taught from primary school to university.

Party symbol and flag

The party symbol is a man who binds a scarf and a buffalo horn blows. The horn symbolizes the identity of the East Timorese. It conveys a message, the voice of the people. The buffalo is of social and economic value for the country. He is a strong animal, which is expressed that the PR has the power to address the country's development.

The party flag is white with a green circle on the stand in the middle the yellow letters "PR". White stands for pure heart and pure spirit, green for progress, development and protection of the environment. The circle in the center represents the target. The yellow of the letters stands for peace. Together with the flags that the PR with a pure heart and mind, the development of the country supported with clear views to achieve prosperity in peace.

In the parliamentary elections on 30 June 2007, the PR was 1.06 % ( 4,408 ) of the valid votes and thus failed at the three- percent threshold. Most support they received in the district Oecussi- Ambena, where she received 1,072 votes ( 3.8%).

In the parliamentary elections in 2012, the PR failed again at the three- percent threshold. She received only 4,270 votes (0.91 %). In Oecusse she fell to 1.68 %, which was still the best result in a district.
