Republican Proposal
Propuesta Republicana (abbreviated PRO, Spanish about the Republican proposal ) is an Argentine conservative- liberal party. She went from a 2005 in the city of Buenos Aires was founded party alliance between the locally significant grouping Compromisos para el Cambio and the nation's active party Recrear para el Crecimiento, a spin-off of the UCR forth. It provides since December 2007, the mayor of Buenos Aires and is recognized as a national party since 2010.
History
The party Compromisos para el Cambio was founded in 2002, its original name was Creer y Crecer. Its founder and most famous exponent is the entrepreneur Mauricio Macri, who was president of the sports club Boca Juniors, among others. Macri took up in August 2003 to the mayoral elections in Buenos Aires. He reached in the first ballot the first place, but had to admit defeat in the runoff election the candidate of the Frente País Solidario, Aníbal Ibarra.
In the same year was also the party Recrear para el Crecimiento as an election platform for the politician Ricardo López Murphy, who was in the government of Fernando de la Rúa temporarily Economy Minister, emerged. López Murphy missed with a third place in September 2003, the runoff election for the presidency, which ultimately Néstor Kirchner won because of cancellation of the counterparty Carlos Menem for themselves.
In 2005, the two parties united for the parliamentary elections in the same year an election alliance. Propuesta Republicana went to Buenos Aires, the province of Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos and Mendoza, but reached only in the capital, with over 30 % a good result, while remained in the other districts with values around 10% of the results below expectations.
2007 Macri again presented to the mayoral elections in Buenos Aires. He was able to improve its earnings from 2003 on the first ballot and moved well ahead of second-placed Daniel Filmus in the runoff election, which he was able to win with 60.96 %. He took office in December 2007.
At the presidential election presented the alliance no official candidates. However, López Murphy approached for Recrear and was supported unofficially by Macri. However, he suffered over 2003 landslide losses and only came to 1.43 % of the valid votes, and thus on the 5th Place.
In the parliamentary elections of 2009 PRO appeared in a list of connection together with conservative, anti-government Cristina Fernández de Kirchner members of the Peronist party under the symbol Unión Pro. PRO, the number of seats in the House of Representatives to expand from 9 to 11.
2011 Macri was able to defend his position as mayor of Buenos Aires with a big win in the second round. In advance of the presidential election in 2011 Macri was considering to run as presidential candidate; in surveys however, they were far behind Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and about on par with Ricardo Alfonsín and Eduardo Duhalde. PRO finally supported in choosing the alliances Frente Popular and Compromisos Federal, however, only reached the fifth and fourth place. In the simultaneous parliamentary elections PRO approached only in the city of Buenos Aires and the provinces of La Rioja and Santa Fe, reaching a result of a total of 2 %, where they performed best with 19.3% in the city of Buenos Aires.
Substantive Profile
The party wants the "spirit" of Arturo Frondizi, who was 1958-1962 Argentinian president of the Unión Cívica Radical, revive, according to his own statements on the website. Overall, PRO is assigned to the moderate conservatism, are also elements of economic liberalism available.
In the party program of the concept of security takes a big priority one, so is through targeted prevention, but also consistent and rapid application of the criminal law against delinquent and the creation of fast processes in the justice system to combat crime.
