Request stop

A need maintenance or stop on request is a stop or a breakpoint at which a vehicle of public transport stops only after registration of a stop request by a passenger. Request stops are usually then set up either when only a small guests there is potential or the bus stop is only used seasonally. The most important advantage is the shorter travel time, if no one wants to get in or out. Furthermore, the lower energy consumption, due to the start- attributable.

A special feature is required breakpoints for tour groups. In this case, the transport stops there only if would like a pre- defined minimum number of passengers board or alight and this desire has previously registered with the transport company. An example is the breakpoint Willingen- Stryck which is close Mühlenkopfschanze.

Variants of the signaling

For signaling the holding wanting there are different variants that depend on two factors: one of them if the passenger wants to go in or out, on the other type of vehicle.

Way to characterize the initial wanting:

  • Hold on view: driver sees the boarding consent travelers at the bus stop waiting. This is most commonly used in bus and tram traffic. This method is also used in slow traffic railway lines.
  • Stop on signal: With many web - demand stop, the passenger turns on a signal transmitted to the driver the stop request.

This signal can also be transmitted electronically, for example, of mobile or stationary devices over mobile phone networks (TCP / IP or SMS).

Way to characterize the exit wanting:

  • Stop button was pressed: In most buses, trams and modern railcars, the passenger can transmit to the driver by pressing a button signal his exit request.
  • Grip on oral question: in particular on railway lines which are traveled by older railcars or trains, the passenger must submit his exit request the conductor or the driver verbally. While urban and suburban buses today almost always have a stop request system (stop buttons), these are often missing in older intercity buses as well as in combi buses that are also suitable for short trips and other overland routes.
