Requiem (Lloyd Webber)

The Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber was written as a requiem mass in memory of the father of the composer William Lloyd Webber, who died in 1982, in 1984.

In 1986, the work won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition.

The work is for chorus, three soloists and chamber orchestra with organ, and synthesizer set.

Construction

Andrew Lloyd Webber waived the Gradual and the Tract of the Mass for the Dead. In the Sanctus, it uses the ancient liturgical division into two parts ( Sanctus / Hosanna - Benedictus ). In addition, the work includes the usual until 1970, no longer used in the liturgy of the requiem motet Pie Jesu and a text from the funeral service Libera me.
