Rerir

Rerir, King of Hunland ( mglw. Franconia ) a mythological figure from the Norse sagas, Sigis son, grandson Odin, father of the Volsung, the ancestor of Wölsungen. Since he and his wife remained childless for a long time, they turned to the gods, to remedy the situation.

Odin and his wife Frigg sent Liod, a daughter of the giant Hrimnir, with an apple fertility to Rerir. Liod let him fall into the lap of the apple; the king got the message and gave the apple to his wife to eat.

In the next battle Rerir fell, but his wife was pregnant. However, this pregnancy lasted 6 years until she had enough of it and the child could give birth to Volsung by Caesarean section. This operation cost them their lives.

Volsung later married Liod who had helped his mother by means of the apple to pregnancy, and they ruled together over the Hunland.
