History

Antas and other finds indicate a prehistoric settlement. Also, remains of settlements from the Castro culture and the Lusitanians, click here. In the 2nd century BC the Romans took the field. It became part of the province of Lusitania, Roman roads Lamego ran through the present county area. After the Suevi sold in the 5th century the Romans, the area was part of the Western Goth. During the Arab conquest from 711 and this area fell to the Moors. On behalf of the Parish of São Martinho de Mouros a reference place today at this time.

During the Reconquista two administrative units have been created in the district today. Besides São Martinho de Mouros (probably 1058 first city rights ), this was the circle of Arego, who received in 1183 the first city rights. In the 12th century King D.Afonso Henriques split from Resende from among Aregos and gave it to his tutor Egas Moniz.

Resende was in 1514, a separate circuit and was the first city rights. 1855, the circles Aregos and São Martinho de Mouros were dissolved and merged with the more central Resende for today's circle.

Traffic

The railway line Linha do Douro runs through the county territory, with multiple breakpoints ( Aregos, Mirão and Ermida ).

The national road N108 leads to about 25 km east running A24 motorway, junction 11 ( Peso da Régua ). About 40 km to the north ( on the N101/N15 ) runs the A4 motorway, junction 18 ( Padronelo ).

Resende is integrated into the national bus network of speech Expressos.
