Resilience (disambiguation)

Resilience (Latin resilire spring back ',' bounce ', about German resistance ) describes the tolerance of a system to interference.

Description

Resilience is the ability of a system to deal with change. Systems must namely offset from inside or outside interference coming their condition or endure while maintaining their system integrity. In the first case ( resilience in the narrow sense ) so the undisturbed initial state must be an attractor of the dynamics, whereas the amount of tolerable system states must be invariant under the interference effect in the second case.

An illustrative example of resilience in the narrower sense is the ability of Stehaufmännchens: It can raise from any position again. Schematically, one can imagine this kind of resilience as a subset of the state space within which a system after a failure again and again to the " ground state " returns. A closely related concept is self-regulation.

The term is interpreted differently in different subject areas. In disaster resilience is a collective term for problems of vulnerability of institutions or collectives.
