Resistin

Resistin is a peptide hormone that is secreted from the adipose tissue. Synonym, it is referred to as FIZZ3 or ADSF (English adipocyte -specific secretory factor). The role of resistin is the subject of numerous investigations. It has been postulated a link between this hormone and insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and obesity, which has not yet been clearly confirmed.

The prepeptide of resistin in humans is composed of 108 amino acids in the mouse and rat of 114 It has a molecular mass of about 12.5 kDa.

Discovery

Resistin was discovered in 2001 by the Working Group of MA Lazar at the Medical Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania. It was called resistin, as the injection in mice resulted in insulin resistance.
