Responsibility assignment matrix

With RACI a technique for analysis and presentation of responsibilities is called. The name is derived from the initial letters of the words Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed.

Method

Organizations use the categorization according to RACI, to describe the role is responsible for what activities, and what roles are to participate. So you can arrive at a clear description of the responsibilities and powers.

The terms to be interpreted as follows:

  • Responsible - responsible ( responsibility for implementation ), responsible for the actual implementation. The person who gives the initiative for the implementation ( by others ) or performing the activity itself. If interpreted as a responsibility in the disciplinary sense.
  • Accountable - accountable (cost responsibility), responsible within the meaning of " approve ", " approve " or "sign". The person who is responsible in a legal or business sense. If interpreted as responsibility for cost center view.
  • Consulted - consulted (professional responsibility). A person should be sought their advice or needs. If interpreted as a responsibility from a business perspective.
  • Informed - inform ( Information Law ). A person who has information about the course or the outcome of the activity receives, or has the authority to obtain information.

Usually only one person per activity ( role ) accountable should be. In contrast, several persons in the event of an activity responsible, Consulted or Informed. It may also happen that a person in an activity is both accountable and responsible.

Representation

As a clear representation of the RACI matrix or RACI chart has been proven. In this case, roles are plotted against activities in a matrix. By entering the letters R, A, C and I, the activities are assigned to the roles.

Variants

RASCI

In addition, S stands for Supportive - supportive. The person can play a supportive role or provide resources available.

RACI -VS or VARISC

V stands for Verify - A person who checks the result of an activity against certain acceptance criteria.

S stands for Sign-Off - A person who confirms the results of V and approved the extradition.

CAIRO or RACIO

O for Omitted - omitted. A person who is explicitly not involved. Sometimes it can be helpful, in addition to defining the responsibilities listed above, that certain people are not aware of participating in an activity.
