Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral of Tirana

The Resurrection of Christ (Albanian Katedralja e Ringjalljes së Krishtit ) Cathedral is one of the most important religious buildings of the Albanian capital Tirana and the whole country. The cathedral belongs to the Orthodox Church of Albania. The Cathedral was opened on June 24, 2012.

The cathedral stands southwest of the Skanderbeg square along the avenue Rruga Deshmoret e 4 Shkurtit. She stands next to the headquarters of the Socialist Party and the Albanian Ministry of Defence.

The building consists of a large dome building and an adjacent bell tower. The complex also includes a chapel, an administrative building of the Holy Synod and a cultural center. The dome has a diameter of 26 meters and is 23 meters high.

History

The historic Cathedral of the Albanian Orthodox Church was demolished in the late 1950s for the construction of socialist culture palace.

The contract was awarded to an architectural firm from New York, 2002. The construction took eight years.

With the opening in the summer of 2012 the 20-year anniversary of Office Anastasios Yannoulatos was thought the Archbishop of Tirana and All Albania.
