Retina-Display

As a Retina display means the U.S. company Apple Inc. screens with high pixel density. According Apple should not be capable of the human eye from a typical viewing distance, to detect individual pixels. The marketing term is used for different screens, Private devices (as of October 2013: iPod touch, iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro) used. Other producers achieve at the displays of their tablet computers and smartphones also partly higher pixel densities.

Apple has defined the term Retina registered in the United States as a brand name and tried in Canada.

Criticism

According to Raymond Soneira, president of DisplayMate Technologies company, the real resolution of the human retina is higher than claimed by Apple. The astrophysicist Phil Plait responded that both Apple and Soneira were right. He wrote that only if you have an above-average eyesight, the pixels of the iPhone 4 are distinguishable. However, people with average eyesight could not see individual pixels.
