Retinoschisis

Retinoschisis (Greek Schisis cleavage), a primary retinal fission ( splitting of the retina) in two layers with Schichtrupturen, and mostly bilateral retinal defects ( perforated, vessel containing membrane formation ).

There is the acquired form of retinoschisis, which manifests itself in middle age, most commonly in farsighted men from the 50th were formerly used as a treatment laser and cryotherapy to prevent progression of the disease. From the previously experienced laser treatment, has now strayed again, because it can not prevent progression.

The rare form of juvenile ( congenital ) retinoschisis is linked to the X chromosome and is inherited recessively. This form leads to severe visual impairment in the child already, and can lead to blindness.
