Retiro bus station

The Retiro bus station ( Terminal de Omnibus de Retiro Spanish ) is the main bus terminus in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. It is situated in the Retiro district, near the train station Retiro and the Villa 31 on Avenida Antártida Argentina.

The Retiro bus station providing connections to all parts of the country except Tierra del Fuego, in Argentina's neighboring countries and to Peru.

History

By 1980, originated in Buenos Aires, the plan to build a central bus station for all long-distance bus services. Until then, the seat of the bus company determined the respective place of departure. The design by architects Serra, Valera and Petrucci was awarded the contract, the Terminal de Omnibus was developed by Riva SA built and opened on 1 May 1983. Originally it was used as a 58 bus companies bus station. Since September 1993 he is by the private company TEBA SA operated.

During the early 1990s, the rail network in Argentina continued to contract sharply, the Retiro bus station became increasingly important. 1995 was necessary because of reaching the capacity limit of a conversion. In 1997, a design by the architects Baudizzone, Lestard Varas and the contract for a further modification, in the course of which the bus station with the three Zugkopfbahnhöfen Retiro Mitre, Retiro Retiro Belgrano and San Martín should be united. This plan was never realized.

The present building has three storeys, 400 m long and has 75 bus bays and over 200 ticket office. The latter are located as well as a branch of the Banco Ciudad upstairs. In the middle floor you will find the bus bays, waiting areas, shops, snack bars and Ernesto Sabato dedicated reading room. From this out is also the access to the bus station for the city buses on the forecourt of the stations Retiro possible and to Retiro Subway Station. In the basement are baggage and parcel drop-off as well as the offices of some bus companies that provide postal and money services housed.
