Reto Berra

Reto Berra ( born January 3, 1987 in Bülach ) is a Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender who stands since March 2014 at the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Reto Berra began his career with the EHC Bülach until after the novice to the elite A-Juniors of the ZSC Lions and joined the junior of the GCK Lions. In the season 2003/ 04 he made his debut in the National League B for the GCK Lions and played in the following years their junior and senior team. In the season 2005/ 06 he was back-up of Ari Sulander in the National League A, but came back to inserts in the NLB. NHL Entry Draft 2006 Berra was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round as 106. In the following season Berra back-up was first again at ZSC and completed two NLA games in 33 appearances. He also played 19 games in the NLB for the GCK Lions and had three appearances in the Swiss U20 national team. In the play-offs injuring Ari Sulander so that Reto Berra was used in four other NLA games.

After the ZSC Lions extended the contract with Sulander in the summer of 2007, Berra decided on a change to HC Davos, where Jonas Hiller was goalkeeper in the NHL before his departure. In Davos, he formed with Leonardo Genoni the Torhüterduo, but could not prevail against Genoni itself. Therefore, he was initially loaned to the SCL Tigers and later on the EV train in October 2008. In early 2009 he returned to the Davos squad, but only got a few missions. Therefore, he decided after winning the league title with the HCD to a change and signed a contract with EHC Biel. When EHC Biel he has developed over the following four seasons, one of the best Swiss goalkeeper, thus attaining the focus of the National Hockey League. On 1 April, the Calgary Flames NHL secured the rights to Berra in the frame of a barter transaction, committing him a few days later for a year.

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season Berra played for the farm team of the Flames, the Abbotsford Heat in the American Hockey League. On November 3, 2013 Reto Berra made ​​his debut in the NHL in goal for the Calgary Flames against the Chicago Blackhawks, who were defeated 3-2 after extra time. Shortly before the trade deadline in 2014 he was given in exchange for a second-round vote to the Colorado Avalanche.

Internationally

Reto Berra has been used several times in junior national teams of Switzerland. His first major tournament he attended in 2005 at the U18 World Cup. Both in the 2006 World Cup, as well as in that of 2007 he was a goalkeeper for the U20 national team and contributed significantly to the whereabouts of Switzerland in the A- Group.

His first men's World Cup Berra graduated in 2012. During the World Cup 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki, he was again part of the national team and won the silver medal with this.
