Retro Studios
Retro Studios is a video game developer based in Austin, Texas. The company is a subsidiary of Nintendo and one of the eight external or a total of 16 first-party developer of Nintendo.
History
1995 Acclaim bought the then second largest based in Austin software maker Iguana Entertainment, which was later renamed Acclaim Studios Austin. The co-founder and president of Iguana Entertainment, Jeff Spangenberg, left her with some other employees of the company and founded on October 1, 1998 Retro Studios, which was committed in 1999 by Nintendo as a second- party developers.
2001 Spangenberg sold his shares to Nintendo and soon left the company. Through the sale of the shares Retro Studios became the second first-party Nintendo developers on the American continent by Nintendo Software Technology.
