Retrograde (music)

A musical cancer or cancer transition is playing backwards, a passage of music ( the mirrors on the vertical). Especially popular musical cancers in the twelve-tone and in the Baroque, as in the canon (cancer canon ) and the joint.

The name is derived from the mode of locomotion in crayfish, which is often wrongly said to have only to walk backwards.
