Retterath

Retterath is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Kelberg.

The place is located in the Eifel.

History

The first documentary mention of the place is to be found in the records of the geometry step Ruotbert Archbishop († 956). Since the Middle Ages to the end of the 18th century Retterath included in the County Virneburg. 1809 had the place along with Arbach and Salcherath own district. Under Prussian administration Retterath was community in the mayor's office in the county Virneburg Adenau. After the dissolution of the circle Adenau in 1932, the community came to the district of Mayen. In the course of administrative reform in 1970 the church (today district Volcanic Eifel ) associated with other municipalities of the former Office Virneburg County Down and the municipality Kelberg.

The local council in Retterath consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

The coat of arms description reads: " Divided by wave cut from blue to gold, above a flying white dove with a white jug of oil in its beak, below 7 (4:3) as red diamonds bar ".
