Return merchandise authorization

With RMA number or RMA number (Return Merchandise Authorization or Return Material Authorization) is called an identification number assigned by the supplier for the goods return. The customer is obliged to request such identification number before returning, so that the goods at the supplier can be assigned correctly. Most often on the RMA form also differed between incurred in the warranty frame defects, already at arrival defective products ( Dead On Arrival) and after the warranty frame or by the Customer caused defects, where to get the repair costs to the customer in the latter case, of course.

Such obligation of the customer, in many cases inconsistent with applicable law. Thus, the end user has, for example, after the German Distance Selling Regulations ( the Civil Code) a right of withdrawal, which is independent of the previous assignment of an RMA number. However, the attachment of an RMA number may well result from the addition to contractual duties of the customer.

Therefore, the RMA process rather serves the structured return of the goods. Thus, a faster and less error-prone mapping and processing the returns are usually achieved. Therefore, the RMA process is usually both parties and should be complied with even by the sender. It is important always, good and visibly indicate the RMA number or RMA code on the packaging in order to receipt of goods can separate the delivery better.
