Return to Forever

Return to Forever is an American formation of the fusion (also known as jazz-rock ), the ( 1971-1977 ), celebrated in the 1970's great success and has reunited in 2008.

The band combines jazz with rock, soul, funk and Latin elements. Therefore, it was in the 1970s, among other groups, the logical development of modern jazz that Miles Davis had initiated in the late 60s.

History

The 1970s

The keyboardist Chick Corea had already been replaced as a member of the innovative band around Miles Davis in appearance, which had developed in the late 1960s with the groundbreaking album Bitches Brew style of jazz-rock.

In 1972 he released the solo album Return to Forever, at the same time became the eponym of his new formation ( other significant successor groups from the environment of Miles Davis ' were John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter's Weather Report ).

The original cast of Return to Forever existed alongside Corea (keyboards) from Stanley Clarke ( bass), Joe Farrell (flute, saxophone), Airto Moreira (drums, percussion ) and his wife Flora Purim (vocals ). In this first phase, the band was more known for their Latino sound.

After a reshuffle with Mingo Lewis ( percussion), Bill Connors (guitar) and Lenny White (drums), the band followed the more progressive rock and fusion direction. The 1973 recorded album Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy was a huge commercial success, as the following albums Where Have I Known You Before, No Mystery ( winner of the Grammy Awards) and Romantic Warrior. 1974 Al Di Meola, then only 19 -year-old graduate of the Berklee School of Music, Connors had replaced as a guitarist.

1976 formed Corea, the group again to: members of the band were now his wife Gayle Moran ( keyboards and vocals, before the Mahavishnu Orchestra ), Joe Farrell, Gerry Brown ( drums), as well as an ensemble of brass musicians: John Thomas, James Tinsley ( trumpet ) Jim Pugh and Harold Garrett ( Trombones). But after the next tour Corea broke the band in 1977.

Reunion 2008

The beginning of 2008 announced the members of the " classic" line-up - Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and Al Di Meola - a reunion tour of North America and Europe. In the period of 29 May 2008 to 8 August 2008, the band toured extensively throughout the United States. Concerts in Europe were added in the period 2 to 25 July 2008 with a highlight of the performance at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival on 19 July 2008 was. Restructuring for 2011
