Reuben Booth

Reuben Booth ( * November 26, 1794 in Newtown, Connecticut; † August 11, 1848 in Danbury, Connecticut ) was an American politician. Between 1844 and 1846 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

In his youth, Reuben Booth worked with his father in the operation, who worked in the wool industry. Then he studied until 1816 at Yale College. After a subsequent law degree in 1818 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began practicing in Danbury in this profession. Between 1822 and 1835, he was restructuring judge in the district of Danbury. At the same time he embarked on a political career. In 1822 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Connecticut; in 1830 he was a member of the State Senate. In the 1830s he joined the Whig Party was founded at that time.

In 1844, Booth was elected to the side of Roger Sherman Baldwin for Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut. This post he held 1844-1846. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. He was considered a conservative politician. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he worked as a lawyer again. Booth died on 14 August 1848 dysentery. Three days earlier, he had taken part in a criminal court proceedings. He was buried in Danbury.
