The Reunion Arena was an indoor arena in Dallas in the U.S. state of Texas. In June 2008 closed, the demolition began in April 2009 and lasted until December 2009.

History

The Reunion Arena was completed in 1980 and opened in April. The construction cost the city of Dallas 27 million U.S. dollars. From the beginning until 2001, the hall was home venue for the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA team. The National Hockey League ice hockey team Minnesota North Stars moved to Dallas in 1993 to and got the name Dallas Stars. Until the move to the new building in 2001, it was located in the Reunion Arena. The NASL Indoor Soccer team Dallas Tornado occurred in the 1980/81 season in the Reunion Arena in. From 1984 to 2004, the Dallas Sidekicks ( MISL ), the indoor football team was established in the arena. 1999 played inline hockey team Dallas Stallions in the final season of Roller Hockey International ( RHI) in the sports arena. The AFL club Dallas Texans remained from 1990 to 1993; while the Dallas Desperados ( AFL) after only one year (2003) returned back to the American Airlines Center again. From 1980 to 1989, the final tournament of the World Championship Tennis was held (WCT).

In 1998, the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars agreed to, which one would build a new, modern multi-purpose hall for the outdated Reunion Arena. In July 2001, the American Airlines Center was opened and the Reunion Arena lost its two major tenants. Last sports team in the arena were until 2004 the Hall footballer in the Dallas Sidekicks. In 2005 the hall was used as a temporary shelter for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

After a unanimous vote in the city council of Dallas it was decided to close the Reunion Arena and tear later. On June 30, the hall was officially closed. The city planned the arena for filming to blow up if someone would find the would take over the costs. Since, however, showed no interest in the hall with the help of construction was demolished. The city of Dallas concluded in February 2009 with the demolition company A & R Demolition a contract for the demolition of the hall. The contract amounted to over 2 million U.S. dollars. At last the roof of the sports arena has been canceled.
