Reurieth

Reurieth is a municipality in the district of Hildburghausen in Frankish dominated the south of Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community Feldstein. The municipality comprises the city Reurieth and the municipal districts Siegritz and Trostadt.

Geography

Reurieth is located on the upper reaches of the river Werra, in the resort opens from the left of the Zeilbach.

History

Reurieth was first mentioned in 1117. Rule default, the location in the Official Themar first belonged to the county of Henneberg, after 1583 to various Saxon duchies and 1826-1918 of Saxe -Meiningen. In 1920 he came to Thuringia. Reurieth 1685-1688 was affected by witch hunts. Stephan Jung came in a witch trial.

The ruins of the 1171 Men of Reurieth in records in stands on the edge of the village near the church. Later were the Counts of Henneberg owner of the castle, which was destroyed in the Peasants' War. The Lords of Heldburg they built up again, but since the 19th century it is a ruin. The north tower and remains of the perimeter wall are still standing.
