Revalsche Zeitung

The Revalsche newspaper was from 1860 to 1940 one of the most important German-language newspapers in Estonia.

Importance

The Revalsche newspaper was founded in 1860. The Journal was the first newspaper in the country. During most of its existence, the newspaper published six times weekly.

The editorial was based in the Estonian capital of Tallinn ( Reval ). The readership of Reval 's newspaper and their political influence went far beyond the circle of German Balts also in Estonia.

Other Names

From November 1, 1919 to June 30, 1930, the newspaper was published under the name Revaler messenger. From 1930 to 1934, she was wearing the name Revalsche newspaper, before it was passed as Estonian newspaper on August 27, 1934 to March 30, 1935.

Closure

From 1936 until its closure she called again Revalsche newspaper.

On 31 May 1940, the latest edition of Reval 's newspaper appeared. Reason was the Hitler of 1939 arranged and almost completely carried out resettlement of the German Balts from Estonia. With the relocation ended the 700 -year history of the Germans in the Baltic States and the need for a German-language press.
