Reventador

The Reventador

The Reventador (Spanish for " Platzer " ) is an active volcano in the eastern Ecuadorian Andes and is difficult to access in the natural park of the same name in the province of Sucumbios.

Since 1541 he broke out regularly. A large eruption occurred on November 3, 2002. A part of the initially uniform volcanic cone was blown away. The surrounding villages had to be evacuated and due to the immense ash and dust emissions has resulted in significant disability in the area west of the mountain. Large amounts of volcanic ash were deposited on their way westwards in Quito, 100 km away and led, amongst others, to the more -day closure of the airport. Even on the Galapagos Islands, which are located more than 1000 km to the west, the remains of the ashes were still found.
