Revolutionary Febrerista Party

The Partido Revolucionario Febrerista (PRF ) is a democratic socialist Paraguayan political party. It has its origins in the revolution of 17 February 1936 - therefore stirred her name.

History

In February 1936, the revolution brought Febreristische called military uprising Rafael Franco to power. The movement took the name Union Nacional Revolucionario. Through the coup of Colonel Ramón Paredes on August 13, 1937, the Febreristas was driven into exile.

1945, the movement reorganized under the name of Concentration Revolucinaria Febrerista.

1946 formed the Febreristas a coalition with the Colorado, which supported the president Higinio Morínigo. Early in 1947, they left the coalition again. In the ensuing civil war, the Paraguayan Febreristas fought on the side of the liberals and communists against the Colorado.

On 11 December 1951, the party was founded with the name Partido Revolucionario Febrerista at a congress in Buenos Aires, the leaders of the known as Bloque de la Defensa de la Revolución left wing were excluded.

The radical wing Vanguardia Febrerista and Renovador wing of the Liberal Party founded on May 4, 1959, the guerrilla group Movimiento Catorce de Mayo ( movement of May 14 ), which led an armed struggle against the Stroessner regime until December 1960.

1964 took the Febreristas an amnesty offer to Stroessner, most of their leaders returned to Paraguay and participated as a loyal opposition in the political life of the country. They managed to win some seats in Congress.

After the adoption of the constitutional amendment of 1977, which abolished the restriction of the presidential office to two terms of office, the Febreristen left the Congress and joined the Acuerdo Nacional on.

Since 1980, the Partido Revolucionario Febrerista is a member of the Socialist International.

Today's situation

In 2007, she joined the Alianza para el Cambio Patriótica and supported Fernando Lugo, who was elected president in 2008 in Paraguay.

The Partido Revolucionario Febrerista has 11,730 members (as of October 2007).
