Rex Cawley

Rex Cawley (actually Warren Jay Cawley, born July 6, 1940 in Farmington in Detroit, Michigan ) is a former American track and field athlete and Olympic champion. At a height of 1.83 m his competition weight was 75 kg.

Rex Cawley rode at the U.S. trials for the 1960 Olympics, but was unable to qualify with 50.7 seconds in the 400 - meter hurdles in seventh. Four years later, he improved at the Trials in Los Angeles with 49.1 seconds the world record of the Italian Salvatore Morale, which stood at 49.2 seconds. Behind him qualified William Hardin 49.8 seconds, and James Luck at 50.4 seconds. At the Olympic Games in 1964 retired William Hardin, son of the Olympic champion from 1936 Glenn Hardin, in the semifinals, James Luck was fifth in the final. Rex Cawley won the final in 49.6 seconds before the Briton John Cooper and Salvatore Morale, both came to the finish of 50.1 seconds.
