Reyer Venezia Mestre

Reyer Venezia Mestre is an Italian basketball club from Venice. It was during the Second World War, Italian basketball champion twice.

History

1872, the sports club Società Sportiva Costantino Reyer was founded, who founded in 1925 a basketball department into life, Reyer Venezia. In the early years the club played in the lower leagues before 1937, the promotion to the Serie A, founded in 1920. In the first season they finished fifth, a play-off system was installed in Serie A only in the 70's. In the following years until 1941, the association established in the league, always occupied a place in the table at the top of the table.

The last two seasons before the league had to be interrupted because of the Second World War, were determined by Reyer. In 1942 and 1943 the club each champion. Both titles were after a close race against Virtus Bologna, and a Roman team called Mussolini Roma, are recovered. The first season after the war was largely uncoordinated and only a few clubs could ever make a team. Reyer was this season runner-up behind Bologna.

In the seasons after that, the game returned to normal operation and Reyer always ended up in mid-table, before we descended 1957 Elftplatzierter. Between 1966 and 1974 there was another successful period. During this time, the team took always a place in the first quarter of the table. In the 1980/81 season Reyer Veneza approached in Korać Cup, where you pushed forward to the finals. There, finally, was almost lost against Joventut de Badalona with 104:105. This was followed by descents into the second-class series A2, but always followed by climbs back into the top flight. In the top tier of local club but did not manage. The 1993/94 season was the last for a long time in Serie A. It was followed by the crash to the Serie C2, the fifth division.

With the current sponsor of the club Umana the goal Serie A in 2006 took up again, which was achieved in 2011. Overall Reyer Venezia has played 51 seasons in Serie A.
