Reyner Banham

Peter Reyner Banham (* March 2, 1922; † 19 March 1988) was an English architectural critic. His best-known books include Theory and Design in the First Machine Age (1960 ) and Los Angeles: The Architecture of Four Ecologies (1971).

Banham had studied first at Anthony Blunt at the Courtauld Institute of Art, then at Sigfried Giedion and Nikolaus Pevsner.

As Professor Banham taught at the University of London, the State University of New York ( SUNY ) Buffalo and in the 1980s at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
