The Rhine -Neckar Transport GmbH ( RNV ) is a transport company that operates the public transport in the Rhine -Neckar region with the cities of Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen am Rhein.

History

The company was founded on 1 October 2004 by the formation of a joint subsidiary of the five previously operating in the region transport companies Heidelberg Road and Mountain Railroad, Inc. ( HSB), MVV Transport AG, MVV OEG AG, Rhein- Haardt Bahn GmbH ( RHB ) and transport companies Ludwigshafen GmbH (VBL ). Since 1 March 2005, the RNV provides on behalf of the parent company providing transport services within the transport association Rhein- Neckar.

The establishment of the RNV was necessary because the individual companies were not competitive alone in a liberalized transport market. Thanks to an optimized workforce - the same performance is measured with less staff - and a new collective agreement with compared to the parent company lower wages and salaries be reduced personnel costs. Also, the joint buying of goods and services synergies are to be realized.

The previously employed by the parent company employees remain and are provided by way of transfer of employees of the RNV available. However, the RTO will only pay the labor costs under the new collective agreement. The balance remains with the parent company as restructuring costs. New appointments are made only at the RTO to its respective tariffs.

The infrastructure remains with the parent company, but is held by the RNV repaired.

The car park of the parent company was incorporated in the RNV. One exception is 56 in the years 1994 to 1996 by the MVG ( Mannheim transport corporation) and by OEG procured low-floor vehicles, which are bound to the current traffic MVV GmbH in the framework of cross-border leasing. Therefore, this can not be introduced as a benefit in kind.

Also, the vehicle maintenance is done by the RNV. For the already previously the shareholders of RNV belonging former central workshop for transport ( ZWM ) was introduced in the new company and is now referred to within the RNV than focus workshop.

The competitive structures should be used to win the expiring in the coming years for concessions lines in the Rhein- Neckar-Kreis, which are currently served by the HSB and MVV OEG AG. It is also envisaged that the RNV involved in another line calls in the Rhine- Neckar region.

The previously painted different buses and trains available after the course of a corporate design and after a paint in the primary colors orange and white; only on the tracks comes as the third corporate color before sapphire blue.

By May 2008, the RTO operates a route network of 306.9 km. It has 183 rail cars and 180 buses, which are operated with about 1,800 employees.

Acquisitions

As the first subsidiary of RNV end of 2005 was the V- Bus GmbH through acquisition of travel services Oskar Muehlhaeuser in four home where the RTO holds 99 percent of the shares. In March 2006, the takeover of the bus operators Beth GmbH from Lampertheim followed.

Line numbers

The timetable change in December 2006, it was started to unify the line numbers in all areas of RNV in cooperation with the VRN. So the bus in Mannheim and Heidelberg all lines were assigned new numbers. With the timetable change in December 2008, this process was completed as part of a complete redesign of the bus network in Ludwigshafen.

Before there were in Mannheim and Heidelberg tram lines of the same number, while the Mannheim and Heidelberg buses not in the angedachte from VRN scheme with three-digit route numbers matched (Mannheim with letters, Heidelberg with two -digit numbers). As a compromise between RNV and VRN lines were assigned to one - and two-digit numbers within and between the three major cities as well as the Rhine ferry Altrip.

The line numbers from 1 to 99 are divided as follows:

Bus routes with regional character, the previously partially were in the range of numbers of cities have been relocated as part of the line network transformations in the 500, 600 and 700 number ranges that are provided by the VRN for the area around the cities. The 100 and 200 areas in which the VRN the lines of the three cities were previously partially sorted against the actual use, have been used for a parallel to the one performed in Mannheim and Heidelberg line number change for the bus lines of the Western Palatinate.

Passenger information

At many stops the RNV there are electronic displays that reflect the next departures, which left the line number, destination, and right of the estimated departure time or the waiting time are displayed to the exit in minutes in the middle. This so-called Dynamic Passenger Information ( DFI) usually shows the actual time to departure (actual time). The display of the actual time via the computer-aided operations control system (RBL ) of the RNV. The vehicles are localized continuously via GPS, from which the journey time is calculated at the stop. The display of the schedule time (set time) is also technically possible and is used for vehicles that have the RBL equipment missing vehicle or was not received due to disturbances. On the DFI from the control center can also text information to be about about breakdowns or diversions recorded. For all stops departure times can also be accessed with the program " rnv Start.Info " in real - time.

Service and security

Since October 2009, 15 external staff RNV accompany the project "Service and Safety" in small teams, the buses and trains of the RNV. These employees are trained in safety tariff buyer, range science, engineering, and first aid. The conception of this project is unique in Germany.

Major projects

In Mannheim began with a groundbreaking ceremony on December 3, 2012, the construction of light rail north. On completion in 2016, this connects the garden city with downtown Mannheim. Along the new line will contain 14 barrier-free stops. In order to improve the urban transport network in Heidelberg, the " mobile network- hd" was launched. Several kilometers of tram tracks are laid. Heidelberg's newest district " Bahnstadt " is then opened by two tram lines and a bus route.

Modernization of the radio network

In 2007, the existing analogue radio systems RNV were replaced by a single digital radio network according to the TETRA standard. To this end, an agreement was concluded with a volume of around 7.5 million euros. Motorola was assigned to the general contractor, Siemens VDO Automotive in the supply, installation and commissioning of a TETRA Dimetra IP radio system. The billboards at major stops such as Mannheim Hauptbahnhof or Heidelberg Bismarck place, are now centrally controlled from the control center from. The wireless network consists of 7 radio cells, 3 of which are underground. The new radio network 470 vehicles and 330 radios can now communicate across division of RNV with each other.

About Regional Railways

About the urban meter-gauge tram tracks, the RNV also operates four sections of railway line the same track:
