Geography

Rheinhausen located in the northern Breisgau on the Rhine. From here down the Rhine covers the nature reserve Taubergiessen, one of the largest nature reserves in Baden -Württemberg.

Neighboring communities

Rheinhausen bordered to the west by France, to the north by Rust and further clockwise to the south to ring home, Herbolzheim, Kenzingen and Weis Weil.

Community structure

Rheinhausen consists of the formerly independent communities Oberhausen and low Hausen, who united under the new name on 1 May 1972. For the former municipality of Niedernhausen part of the village Niedernhausen. For the former town of Oberhausen Oberhausen the village and the living space Electric interurban center include ( Mühlehof ).

History

On the fertile loess soil between the villages of Upper and Lower Hausen Won Rebbürgerfeld people were already settled some 7,000 years ago, who lived from agriculture and fishing. The Rebbürgerfeldleute among the first farmers, as evidenced archaeologically in Central Europe. Other archaeological findings point after the regular settlement of the area and for the subsequent period.

Up to Rhine regulation and channeling of the Elz in the 19th century, the places were regularly threatened by some devastating floods. The water engineering measures improved this situation considerably, but led to the decline of fishing and navigation on the Rhine, which eventually virtually came to a standstill.

The communities were supplied in December 1906, the first time with electricity, Oberhausen on 17 and low- Hausen on 18 December. The current was supplied by a small hydroelectric power plant on the Elz. This power station was previously used as a driving machine of sewing silk factory.

The community Rheinhausen was formed on 1 May 1972 union of the two congregations low and Oberhausen.

Religions

Rheinhausen is predominantly Roman Catholic. In both districts there are, therefore, Catholic parishes, in addition there is the Priory of St. Michael the Society of St. Pius X. The evangelical believers are served by Weisweil from.

Twinning

Since 28 October 2006, the municipality Rheinhausen is twinned with the Polish town of Wisła and since 9 May 2009 the Alsatian community Wittisheim. Furthermore, the community combines a friendship with Tannenberg (Saxony ) in the Ore Mountains.

Authorities

In Rheinhausen low Hausen of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND ) operates near the Europa Park Rust, a monitoring system for satellite reconnaissance, comparable to that in Schoningen. This is recognizable to the large satellite dishes on the edge. Camouflaged is the plant as the so-called " Ionosphäreninstitut Rheinhausen ". Construction of the plant is said to have cost about DM 90 million ( 45 million euros ). The Federal Government makes no official information on the investment, as is apparent from a Bundestag printed in 1990.
