The Rhine Park Stadium in Vaduz is the only approved for international matches football stadium in the Principality of Liechtenstein. It is the venue for home games of FC Vaduz ( Challenge League) and the Liechtenstein national football team ( National Stadium ).

History

The stadium was financed by the Principality and part of the municipality of Vaduz. It is located directly on the right bank of the Rhine, and thus on the border with Switzerland. Access is via a departure of the Swiss motorway A13. The stadium provided at the opening space for 4,500 spectators, including 3,500 on covered seats. After only one year of construction, it was opened on 31 July 1998. The Opening Match of the then champions FC Vaduz Liechtenstein against the then German champions 1.FC Kaiserslautern ( 0:8 ). In 2006, the Rhine Park Stadium has been expanded with two new, covered bleachers in the south and the north, so that the stadium now provides space for 7'838 spectators (of which 4'184 standing, all covered). After the FC Vaduz had risen in the 2008 /09 season in the Axpo Super League, it was an attempt to expand the stadium to more than 8,000 seats to comply with the new infrastructure license requirements of the Swiss Football League. On 30 May 2011, the Rhine Park Stadium again served as the venue for the opening ceremony of the 14th European Small States Games (Lie - Games), which were held for the second time in Liechtenstein.

On July 21, 2012, the Euro Bowl XXVI found in the Rhine Park Stadium, between the Calanda Broncos and the Vienna Vikings instead. The Swiss won with 27:14.
