Rhenopteridae

Rhenopteridae is a family of subordination Stylonurina from the order of sea scorpions ( Eurypterida ) and the only family of the superfamily Rhenopteroidea.
Features
In the species of the family Rhenopteridae the rear edge of Metastoma was rounded. The prosomal limbs II to IV had short, fixed spines, in which only one was present on III. The prosomal elements V and VI had no spines. The Telson was short.
Locations
Representatives of Rhenopteridae family were found in Germany, Norway, Scotland and Wales.
System
The superfamily and family were established in 1951 by Leif Størmer. It includes after Lamsdell, Braddy & Tetlie 2010, the following genera:
- Subfamily Rhenopterinae Alkenopterus
- Rhenopterus
Junior synonyms of the superfamily Rhenopteroidea are Brachyopterellidae Tollerton, 1989 and Alkenopteridae Poschmann & Tetlie, 2004.
