Rhizoid

Rhizoids are "quasi- roots ", especially in mosses, but also for example in the Chara and some seed plants, such as the water hoses.

Rhizoids in mosses have no specialized conducting tissue in contrast to roots of higher plants. The nutrient and water uptake is therefore of minor importance, but rather the anchoring function. In mosses, they consist of filaments of single cells in liver and hornworts of long, tubular ( tubular ) single strands.
