Rhodes (regional unit)

The Regional District of Rhodes (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Rodou Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Ρόδου ) is one of 13 regional districts of the Greek region South Aegean. It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from the previously ten municipalities of the island of Rhodes and four other island communities of the former Dodecanese Prefecture and corresponds exactly to the territory of the former province of Rhodes, which existed until 1997. Proportional to its 120 889 inhabitants, the area sends 20 deputies to the regional council, but has no more political significance than local authority.
