Rhynchocalyx

The Rhynchocalyx lawsonioides is the only species of the genus in the plant family of Rhynchocalyx Penaeaceae within the order of Myrtenartigen ( Myrtales ).

Description

In Rhynchocalyx lawsonioides is a small evergreen tree. The stalked, simple, deciduous leaves are opposite, as with most other Myrtenartigen, arranged in decussate whorls of this type up to the branches. Stipules are present.

Many flowers are terminal or axillary together in paniculate inflorescences. The hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry and sechszählig with a double perianth. It is forming a hypanthium. The six free petals are nailed. It's just a circle with six free, fertile stamens present. The stamens are long. The two carpels are fused into a superior ovaries. The stylus is shorter than the ovary and the stigma is capitate.

Are formed capsule fruits. The seeds have a wing at one end.

The plants accumulate Al ions.

Dissemination

Rhynchocalyx lawsonioides is a Florenelement the capensis. It is endemic to the eastern South African provinces of KwaZulu -Natal and the Eastern Cape. This type grows in the coastal forests along the Indian Ocean.
