Ribadesella is a Spanish city in the province of Asturias, at the mouth of the River Sella (Spanish for Rio Sella - hence the name ).
Geography
The town with 6097 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) is the 1 - 42 m above sea level facing the Cantabrian Sea on an area of 84.37 km ² at the Coastline Costa Verde. The next cities Gijón, Oviedo and Santander are 60, 80 and 115 km away. The Pico Mofrecho ( 897 m), the highest point of the municipality dar.
Ribadesella is a station on the Santiago Way, more precisely the Camino del Norte.
Climate
The climate is maritime and humid with pleasant mild summers and mild winters also according to the coastal area. Due to the Picos de Europa in the hinterland is expected in the spring and in autumn with fog.

Events
Every year on the first Saturday in August, the Descenso del Sella takes place, an international canoe race from 20 km away Arriondas downriver on the Sella to Ribadesella. Target is the central bridge over the Sella in the city. There, then the Fiesta de las Piraguas is celebrated on the occasion of the race.
