Ribe Municipality

Ribe municipality ( German: Ripen municipality ) is a commune in Ribe Amt in southwest Denmark.

The municipality was created on the occasion of municipal reform in 1970 from the city of Ripen and their rural community and there are 12 other rural communities: Hviding, Roagger and Spandet had until then part of the Office Tønder and always Nordschleswig. The island Mandö was closely associated with Ripen since the Middle Ages. Wester- Wittstedt, Seem, the 1864/86 split of Hügum Obbekier, Fahrdrup, Kalslund and Hjortlund were divided until 1864 between the Duchy of Schleswig and the Kingdom of Denmark, but without clear boundaries. Vilslev belonged to the southern districts to the royal Jutland, and only Jernved fully belonged to the kingdom. Except for the first three of these communities were all in office since 1864 fully ripen.

2007 was the municipality together with the municipalities Bramming and Esbjerg on in one, then more than 100,000 inhabitants major new Esbjerg Municipality. Denmark's oldest city lost so after more than 1000 years their municipal independence.
