Ribeira is the Tainhas a municipality ( freguesia ) in a circle ( concelho ) of Vila Franca do Campo on the Portuguese Atlantic island of São Miguel, which belongs to the Azores. Covering an area of 9.6 km ² live 703 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011) in the community was / is equivalent to a population density of 73.3 inhabitants km ².

History

The previously uninhabited island of São Miguel was first settled from 1439 by the Portuguese. Ribeira das Tainhas is believed to have originated much later. The parish church was built from 1811. Ribeira das Tainhas remained part of the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, until it spun off in 1980 and an independent municipality in the district of Vila Franca do Campo was.
