Ribemont-sur-Ancre

Ribemont -sur- Ancre ( Picard: Ribemont -su - Inke ) is a northern French village with 609 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) by the Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the canton of Corbie and is part of the Communauté de communes du Val de Somme.

Geography

The community is located approximately eight kilometers south-west of Albert at the intersection of the roads department D521, D452 and D119. The southern boundary largely forms the vermoorte floodplains of the Ancre, the northern part of community pervades the Territory road D929. The railway line Paris -Lille with the Méricourt - Ribemont station runs predominantly in the field of the neighboring community Méricourt -l'Abbé. The municipality consists of the parts of municipalities Le Petit Ribemont and Homesteads Saint -Laurent - Ferme d' en Haut and Ferme du Bas.

History

On the right bank of the Ancre there was a discovered by aerial photography in 1962 and excavated since 1966 Gallo- Roman cult site Sanctuaire de Ribemont -sur- Ancre ) with a handling temples, a theater and baths, which goes back to an earlier place of Belger.

Until the French Revolution Ribemont was under the rule of the Lords of Heilly.

The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
