Ribon

Ribon (Japaneseりぼん) is a Japanese manga since 1955 existing magazine, which is published by Shueisha publishing on 3rd of every month. The short stories and individual chapters of several long manga series that appear in the magazine, aimed at girls in elementary and middle school age and are thus assigned to the shōjo genre.

History

The magazine was first published in August 1955 as a sister magazine Shōjo Book and was by Nakayoshi the first pure manga magazine for a female readership. Manga artists like Jiro Tsunoda, Leiji Matsumoto and Osamu Tezuka, but also Toshiko Ueda and Miyako Maki, one of the first successful female manga illustrators, created in the 1950s and 1960s, works for Ribon.
