Ribulose-phosphate 3-epimerase

Ribulose phosphate -3 -epimerase ( RPE) is the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of ribulose -5-phosphate to xylulose - 5-phosphate. This reaction is a partial step in the pentose phosphate pathway in all living things, and the carbon dioxide assimilation in plants.

Ribulose -5-phosphate is rearranged to xylulose -5-phosphate and vice versa. Other substrates are D- erythrose, D- Erythrulose and D Threose -4 -phosphate.
