Ricardo Legorreta

Ricardo Legorreta Vilchis ( born May 7, 1931 in Mexico City; † 30 December 2011) was a Mexican architect.

Life

Legorreta studied until 1953 at the National School of Architecture of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM). He was a student of José García Villagrán and 1955-1960 Partner.1960 which he founded with Noé Castro and Carlos Vargas, the architectural firm " Legorreta Arquitectos ," which he later named " Legorreta Legorreta llama " along with Noé Castro, Víctor Legorreta, Miguel Almaraz and Adriana Ciklik was continuing. He designed using a new hotel concept the hotel " Camino Real México ", belonging to the Olympic Games in Mexico City opened its doors on 25 July 1968 in 1975 was followed by the " Camino Real Cancun " and 1981 the " Camino Real Ixtapa ". To Legorretas buildings are not only numerous large orders, residential and industrial buildings in Mexico, but also in the U.S., Europe and Asia. In Managua, he designed the cathedral, completed in 1993.

As a professor Legorreta taught in Mexico at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma and the Universidad Iberoamericana and the United States at the University of California, Los Angeles, at Harvard University and at the University of Texas at Austin.

Legorreta was since 1989 " numbered Member" ( Miembro de Número ) Academia de Artes, a member of the International Advisory Board of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the International Academy of Architecture (IAA ), and honorary member of the American Institute of Architects.

His son Victor Legorreta is also an architect and works as a partner in his father's architectural firm.
