History

The company was founded under the name Engine Patents Ltd in 1915 by Sir Harry Ricardo in England. 1919, the company moved to Shoreham -by-Sea in West Sussex. With the renaming of Ricardo Consulting Engineers Ltd.. began in 1927 on expanding business activities at the international level. Dave Shemmans is the current CEO.

Great Britain

Shoreham- by-Sea to the English Channel is the traditional headquarters of Ricardo plc. The focus in research, and the design and development of different drive systems and internal combustion engines, as well as engines and vehicles are manufactured in small series there. Leamington Spa, near Birmingham, is one of two other technical centers of Ricardo plc. The core of this center is in the design, development, prototype and serial production of driveline and transmission systems. In Leamington also the motor sport activities are controlled. In the development department at Cambridge Ricardo plc specializes in the control and management systems for engines and drive trains. Furthermore, systems for active safety, on-board diagnostic systems and embedded software are developed there.

Germany

The German subsidiary of Ricardo plc was founded in 1999. Thus, the presence in the Central European market was expanded and strengthened cooperation with major German automotive manufacturers. In Schwäbisch Gmünd is the seat since 2003 and is headed by Dr. Kurt Jonas since autumn 2012. Furthermore, there is also a test center in Aachen.

Priorities in Germany are the design of internal combustion engines for the automotive and motorcycle industry as well as prototyping and testing to the production stage. Structural analysis, calibration, and NVH -related aspects are processed in the affiliated testing centers in Schechingen, Remseck and Gaimersheim.

Since 2005, the Ricardo Strategic Consulting GmbH in Munich supports the most important car manufacturers in the strategic direction and advice.

USA

The U.S. is represented by Ricardo Inc. with locations in Detroit ( HQ) and Chicago. Are led this development and test centers of Thomas Apostolos. The focus here is also on the research, design, prototyping and manufacturing of engines and systems, as well as petrol, diesel, hybrid and gas engines of all sizes.
