Ricardo Tavarelli

Ricardo Javier Tavarelli Paiva ( born August 2, 1970 in Asunción ) is a former Paraguayan football goalkeeper.

Career

Tavarelli began his professional career with Olimpia Asunción. With the club he has been very successful and has won several titles. Thus, besides the Torneo Republica win was in 1992 six times the income of the national championship.

2002 was a special year for Tavarelli. For one, he took with the national team at the World Championships in part, on the other hand, he won the Copa Libertadores, and then stood with his club in the finals of the World Cup. However, the game 0-2 against Real Madrid was lost. A year later with a 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo of the nearest international title win in the Recopa Sudamericana.

2004 Tavarelli left his hometown club and moved to Grêmio Porto Alegre in Brazil. However, he stayed there the great success denied and he returned to Olipmia. In Sportivo Luqueño he then ended his career.

Tavarelli had in the national team with José Luis Chilavert a strong competitor, so it hardly came to international duty. In 2002 he came to his single World Cup use, as Chilavert was locked at the start of the tournament.

Because of his quick reflexes Tavarelli received the nickname " El Mono " ("The Monkey "). His former team-mate Roque Santa Cruz is the sister Tavarellis, Giselle, married.
