Riccardo Broschi

Riccardo Broschi (also Brosca ) (* around 1698 in Naples, † 1756 in Madrid) was an Italian composer in the Baroque.

In Naples, he studied composition at the Conservatorio Santa Maria di Loreto and worked during the first years of work in his hometown. In 1725, also had his only comic opera premiered. Across Europe, he was known at that time particularly because of the works which his brother Carlo, the famous Farinelli, sang and Riccardo Broschi specially wrote for this. For example, the role of Epitides in stage work Merope ( 1732). Riccardo Broschi composed 1728-1735 at least six heroes operas. In addition, he participated in various pastiches.

1736 and 1737 he was engaged at the court of Carl Alexander of Württemberg in Stuttgart as " Compositore di musica ". Here came the beginning of 1737 his opera Adriano in Siria to the performance. The sudden death of the Duke, on March 12, 1737 ended at an early stage of his stay in Stuttgart. He moved in 1740 to the vicinity of his brother to Madrid.
