Riccardo Morandi

Riccardo Morandi ( born September 1, 1902 in Rome, † December 25, 1989 ) was an Italian engineer. Career

After completing his engineering studies (1927 ) Morandi worked in Calabria and met with the elimination of earthquake damage to the usefulness of pre-stressed concrete. With his office in Rome he designed in consequence mainly cinema buildings and bridges. He was also involved in the expansion of the Roman airport of Fiumicino. Morandi taught bridge at the University of Florence and at the University of Rome. His main works include the Ponte Amerigo Vespucci in Florence (1957) and the Barranquilla bridge over the Rio Magdalena in Colombia, 1974. Portions of the bridge over Lake Maracaibo fell after a collision with a an oil tanker on 6 April 1964.
