Riccardo Zandonai

Riccardo Zandonai (* May 30, 1883 in Sacco, Rovereto, then Austria - Hungary, † June 5, 1944 in Pesaro ) was an Italian composer and conductor. In 1910 he became a corresponding member of the Accademia degli Roveretana Agiati.

As a student of Pietro Mascagni Zandonai was close to the verismo, but his music also includes traits of Impressionism.

Zandonai has become known primarily as a composer of operas; of his eleven operas are da Rimini by Gabriele d' Annunzio Tragedy (world premiere: Turin, 1914) Francesca: occasionally hear (Rome, 1922 premiere ) and Giulietta e Romeo to a libretto by Arturo Rossato.

In addition Zandonai created three symphonic poems, concertos and a Requiem.
