RICE (medicine)

The PECH - rule ( PECH for pause - Ice - Compression - High bearings) summarizes the treatment measures whose application is recommended for muscle and joint injuries, in order to keep the damage as low as possible. In English-speaking countries it is called RICE, which for rest, ice, compression, elevation stands.

These measures can be carried out immediately by the patient or a helping lay people, but are usually not an exhaustive supply or therapy, but the preliminary primary-care obviously only minor injury. It should always be trying to get a qualified assessment and care. Amateur advice, such as " As you can see nothing, nothing there either! And now to work out the injury by moving to the absolute limit " must! Omitted, are irresponsible and not to follow, especially against wards or other dependent (eg, subordinates ). This is true even if it is the view of the patients themselves ( "The work has been discharged or the game will be won." ). Subjectively, the pain may decrease by Carry on often, due to the increased release of stress hormones, particularly epinephrine ( flight reflex, pain reduction) and after the first successful movements and dopamine ( hormone of happiness ). Due to the hormones, the performance can be increased even briefly and objectively. The effect is the increase in output of by -inflicted pain (eg hitting ) driven animals and humans. Then the injury to be treated is considerably worse and it can make the difference between a short-term, long-term or permanent damage.

These considerations are, however, not to make when it comes to himself or to remove the patient from a hazardous area or to reach help.

Differentiation

The PECH - rule, in particular the cooling, is not a suitable agent for the treatment of muscle spasms, although P ( mice ) and H ( ochlegen ) may contribute to pain relief and regeneration.
