Richard Best, Baron Best

Richard Stuart Best, Baron Best OBE ( born June 22, 1945) is a British peer.

Career

Best attended Shrewsbury School and then the University of Nottingham. From 1970 to 1973 he was Director of the British Churches Housing Trust, then to 1988, the Federation of Housing Associations. From 1988 to December 2006, he led the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust.

1988 Best was awarded the Order of the British Empire, and on 4 June 2001 he was appointed Life peer as Baron Best, of Godmanstone in the County of Dorset appointed. He sits as a cross Bencher in the House of Lords. On 13 July 2007 he an honorary doctorate from the University of York was awarded.
